Welcoming Commitees

 The first thing that you might notice if you visit any of the homes in this area is that almost all of them have some sort of furry welcoming committee.  It can be comprised of cats, dogs, chickens, horses, sheep, goats, and many others.  The most common committee are dogs, sometimes up to six or seven.

They are not all exactly pets.  Many of the dogs serve as watchdogs and doorbells. They bark when anything unusual comes near, including guests!

This dog stood guard while we handed out a craft.

Other animals, such as these ducks and chickens can be pets for awhile, but often get eaten, either by coyotes or by other carnivores.

This pen didn't look like it could hold much, in or out!

There are sheep too!  These ones live right down the road from us and love eating anything we give them.  They are enjoying the cottonwood leaves we picked this time.

Some families have horses as well.  These are often favorite pets.  There are also wild horses that we often see along the road.  We have to be careful not to hit them when we are driving, especially in the dark.

This horse belongs to the girl and is named Dearly.

It is fun to be able to visit the kids in their homes and meet their special pets!
